With daily warnings that the federal government is getting ready to invade the City of Big Shoulders, it's time to look at where Chicago actually ranks in violent crime per capita.
An east coast/Cincinnati transplant, but Hyde Park, Edgewater Glen, and Lincoln Park/Lakeview in my quarter century living in the city (and add another decade while working for its largest newspaper while living in Tokyo, NYC and Washington, DC.)
I never thought the Chicago crime rate was terrible. There were sections you would stay out of and you were careful at nighttime in the Loop.
I did not do your type of traveling till after the Corps (68-71) and my Masters. All over Thailand, China, Philippines, etc. and then mainland Europe. I was supply-chain and I would spend weeks going from plant to plant. Still burning Delta miles. Retired. Thank you.
Before it closed and I believe torn down, we had our prom, at the Edgewater Beach Hotel. Thank you.
