GoozNews relaunched!
For seven years, I wrote a blog called GoozNews on Healthcare that drew a fairly wide and influential audience. I discontinued the blog after returning to Chicago in 2012 to edit Modern Healthcare magazine, the leading trade journal in the healthcare space.
On October 3, 2020, after retiring from Modern Healthcare and ending my weekly column there, I relaunched GoozNews as a paid subscription email newsletter. It will also appear as a “blog” on the web at GoozNews.substack.com. Some of the content there will be exclusive for subscribers.
By subscribing, you are showing your support for independent, fact-based journalism and expert commentary from someone with more than 40 years in the news business who’s been following healthcare closely for more than 20 years.
Why support my independent journalism
While writing the previous incarnation of GoozNews, I drew a fairly wide and influential audience. I attribute that to the fact I brought a well-informed, progressive, issue-based mindset to every piece I wrote. I took aim at the special interests that dominate a field that is supposed to put the health and well-being of people ahead of profit.
The relaunched GoozNews, while continuing to primarily focus on healthcare, will tap the experiences of my long and varied career in journalism. Before joining Modernhealthcare in 2012, I spent 15 years working in the nation’s capital, learning the ins and out of how our government operates. Before that, I spent seven years living in Tokyo and New York as a foreign and national correspondent for the Chicago Tribune. Over those years, I’ve covered a wide array of business, economic, environmental, labor and social topics. I left the Tribune to write a book about the pharmaceutical industry. You can buy a copy here: “The $800 Million Pill: The Truth About the Drug Industry.”
In my semi-retirement, I have also begun writing occasional pieces for mainstream publications and limited circulation political magazines like Democracy: A Journal of Ideas, The New Republic, and the Washington Monthly.
The relaunch of GoozNews as a paid newsletter serves two purposes:
It allows me to expand my commentary to a wider range of subjects on which I have expertise; and
It will provide me with your feedback. I need to know if you value this work, and the only way I can determine that is by having paid subscribers.
I have deliberately set a very low price point for subscribing. Your support signals that you value the perspective I bring to these troublesome times.
