It is very Dickensian - punish the Poor until they get the gumption to pull themselves up by their bootstraps... It didn't work in the early and mid 1800s and it won't work now. Our abysmal life expectancy will just continue to drop.
A big tax cut increasing the deficit at a time of relatively full employment will be inflationary, and even devastating health and other cuts won't come near to offsetting the revenue loss. You're right about the recession, if it's coming let's hope the timing works out for the midterms.
Excellent piece succinctly describing what will happen. So much for taking care of the least fortunate among us.
I only hope that things will get so bad that the public revolts and elected Democrats to the Senate and House next year so we can begin to undo the devastation these cretins are causing.
As a retired internist, I have a provider's perspective. The uninsured/underinsured present late in the course of a disease. They are a statistic-to-be and cost a lot more to treat. I think the whole problem boils down to 3 things: First - conservatives and reactionaries believe that the poor are bad people and ought to be punished for being poor. Second - we continue to use a fee-for-service and for profit system and that is a very inefficient and expensive way to dole out healthcare. Third - the system is shot through with corruption and corporate carveouts. We could deliver world-class healthcare to everyone for a lot less than we do, but it would mean goring a lot of oxen...
Medicaid has been on the forefront of innovation in many states. The 1115 waivers reveal ways in which states have augmented coverage with services not traditionally covered under the outmoded indemnity model of insurance, pioneering the way in social determinants of health to improve health status and avert avoidable emergency and acute episodes. I fear for the future of the 1115 waivers, some of which were just approved at the end of the Biden administration.
A recession is a feature not a bug. The people who benefit from a recession are the oligarchs who can then buy up whatever they want at discounted prices. They couldn't care less if eggs are more expensive
Seriously may be time for states to pursue strategies for withholding payments to the Federal government. If they are forced to shoulder more costs, they will need more money.
Mass healthcare layoffs started back in late 2023 and were heavy throughout 2024. Stop the fear-mongering. Stop screaming that the sky is falling, chicken little.
Weakening American society by flooding the zone with chaos and confusion, poverty and illness. It’s harder to #Resist when you’re broke, sick and dispirited. And now this, a Fauci payback:
The fact that none of the waste mentioned above plus what has been uncovered by DOGE in just 3 weeks has been addressed in the past is stunning. Funds to promote LGBTQ propaganda in Guatemala, funds sent to Iran to for Sesame St. shows, funding countries like Ghana to get rid of oil production in favor of solar and wind thereby causing blackouts and loss of water for irrigation and ruining their economy, spending $59 million on NYC hotels to house illegal immigrants is a sickening use of my money. inflation has been rising since Sept last year and that is all on Biden. Why should we pay duty on imports from other nations while they get a free ride on our exports? The government spending that is being rightly slashed is completely unnecessary. We are running annual deficits of $1.8 trillion. That must stop and it will stop.
The waste is in the Pentagon. Douche uncovered nothing that wasn’t approved by Repubs in Congress, & their leader Il Douche lies about as much as Mad King Donold. It’s ok though, all that tariff revenue will pour in to protect the tax cuts for the 1% so you’ll be fine.
Hard to reject the notion that these people actually get sadistic satisfaction from inflicting pain and privation

Such a righteous, superior feeling too. "Serves 'em right if they don't prosper like me, the good Christian that I am." Calvinism lives on.

CDC to lose one-tenth of workforce under Trump administration probationary job cuts https://www.kktv.com/2025/02/14/cdc-lose-one-tenth-workforce-under-trump-administration-probationary-job-cuts/
As Steve Bannon observed, many Medicaid recipients are the MAGA faithful. Wait was that a leopard I just saw?
The space program is about $80 billion, 4X what China's program is. We could cut our program in ½ and still spend 2X what other countries do.
Wow.
