I cannot understand why wealthy people begrudge poor working people food security and housing assistance. These people are inhumane and deserve to experience the same suffering they are willing to inflict on the poor. How can they lack basic human decency?

Come on - you gotta punish those takers. Make them pull themselves up by their bootstraps! This is no different than a Dickens novel from the 1840s. The oligarchs have ever been with us and will continue until society invokes the French Revolution solution...

I fully expect US lifespan to drop in the next few years, for reasons like this. Also increased unemployment, malfunctioning government programs after cutbacks, it's gonna be bad.

But wait, I thought we could solve the healthcare crisis by making doctors liable under value-based care and quality measures.

We tend to focus on process/outcome while ignoring infrastructure.

As you point out, we cannot provide high-quality care to people without a good social safety net infrastructure.
